Why are we called Chulapa?

Chulapa is not an invented name. It is closely linked to Madrid traditions and culture: the meaning of the word is the genuine Madrid girl in 19th century dress.
The word “chulapa” comes from the Spanish adjective “chula” (feminine) that means “cocky”. The chulapas (females) and chulapos (males) were people from Madrid’s working class with a fashionable clothing style and a self-confident attitude.
The chulapa costume was made up of a long tight dress with ruffles at the bottom, a white handkerchief with a red carnation on the head and a Manila shawl covering the shoulders.

Our 21st century Chulapa is a trendy, attractive, cosmopolitan girl that enjoys a night out with her friends on a rooftop terrace in Madrid. A unique and striking Chulapa image was a key element to convert her into the flagship brand of Madrid wines. re colors, black and white, for a hint of modern vintage.
