Interesting (very good) interview with many points which could be debated for hours on end. EP 2025 would have been tricky without the international scene being as it is, now, who knows?

But ultimately there is an ever smaller % of the wine buying public prepared to engage with the EP system - cash now, deliver 2 years, drink 5, 10, 20 years - it's simply not an attractive proposition UNLESS there is a real, financial return for the buyer, or the wines are so rare/scarce that is the only opportunity to buy (which Bordeaux just aren't).

That’s exactly what I think, David. I do not think it is rocket science, but I always get the same rejoinders: “But remember, Sara, that a lot of people buy EP for provenance, access, and so on.”

Yes, of course — but then how do you explain the lack of demand? That suggests the problem is not consumers failing to appreciate what is on offer, but that what is on offer no longer feels compelling enough.
